David Rowan, Editor, WIRED Magazine: How disruptive tech will transform the IT director’s world

The exponential curve continues to accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies. In the enterprise, this means that IT directors need constantly to anticipate the fast-changing demands of users who expect magic to happen at every interface. WIRED editor David Rowan will offer lessons from the start-ups, research labs and investors he spends his time with, to help you separate the reality from the hype.

He will explain how to respond to the rising dominance of artificial intelligence and predictive analytics; what the sensor-enabled world means for decision-making; why new interfaces will need to be designed against friction; and why security needs to be at the top of every management team’s agenda. More than this, David will explore how to create the internal culture of innovation that will protect all sorts of businesses from the inevitable challenges ahead.

Phil Jones, Managing Director, Brother: CIO. The Chief Innovation Officer

Everything is changing in the workplace. Demanding users, demanding environments and a demanding board keen to adjust their ‘sales’ to meet the change of wind direction in the sea of survival.

This is creating many challenges in the work environment for senior executives and also for the role of the IT executives and CIO’s.

Phil Jones – Managing Director of – Information, Communication, Technology and Services business – Brother UK, will share with us some of his observations about how he sees the workplace changing – using observations from high level surveys as well as his own experience of leading a fast paced business.

Covering such topics as the key priorities of CEO’s, the need for backstage and on-stage management by CIO’s and the importance of relationship building with sales/marketing, the talk should give a unique insight into the thought patterns of the leader of a large sales organisation.

Charlie Blakemore: Case Study: Digitising the Defence Industry

Digitisation isn’t always about responding to change – it can enable an organisation to drive through change, too. BAE Systems is a $15BN business and provides some of the world’s most advanced, technology-led defence, aerospace and security solutions. In this fascinating presentation, you’ll learn how digital has delivered competitive advantage, cut waste and also helped enable cultural change in a sometimes heavily unionised, traditional manufacturing space. You will discover their approach to transformation and learn about new 3D visualisation tools that are leading to national innovation awards and world firsts.
